Former President Bill Clinton was rightly impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives for lying under oath. Of course, his crimes were not limited to that. However, if lying is reason enough to impeach, there would not be many politicians left in Washington, D.C. And that includes the current occupant of The White House.
President George W. Bush has been prevaricating and stonewalling ever since 9/11/2001. If the media had any guts, it would do some serious investigative reporting (something it hasn't done since the Watergate days of Richard Nixon) to determine the truth about those tragic attacks.
Though this writer has yet to publish any significant research regarding Bush's activities on and immediately following 9/11, there are huge questions that beg to be answered, questions that no one in the propaganda press is bothering to ask.
One thing is clear: The White House is every bit the expert at cover-up and subterfuge as it was when Clinton was in power! For example, according to the Wall Street Journal, The White House opposed creating a commission to investigate the events of 9/11. Even after obvious and undeniable miscues by the FBI and CIA, the administration has taken no disciplinarian action. None.
Also, President Bush vehemently denied receiving advanced warnings concerning an impending attack by militant Muslims using airliners as weapons. We now know he did.
We even know now that there was no substantive intelligence linking Iraq to al-Qaida, even though Bush insisted there was. It is also increasingly obvious that the claim Iraq had amassed substantial amounts of WMD was also bogus. The BBC recently reported, "Senior UK Whitehall sources no longer believe weapons of mass destruction will be found in Iraq."
Furthermore, The Miami Herald reported that the long-awaited final report on the September 11, 2001, attacks will be released within the next two weeks. The report is said to contain new information about U.S. government mistakes and Saudi Arabia, not Iraq, financing terrorists.
According to The Herald, "Former Representative Tim Roemer, who served on the House Intelligence Committee and who has read the report, said it will be 'highly explosive' when it becomes public."
One of the essential principles which holds our republic together is the principle of honest government. Any government built and sustained on lies is corrupt and if not checked will lead a nation to ruin!
After learning of the falsehoods and outright lies upon which the war against Iraq was waged, former British Prime Minister John Major said, "It is essential that the word of government and the intelligence services is readily accepted by Parliament and the public." In other words, it is essential that government leaders tell the truth!
As unfolding facts continue to contradict the credibility of this administration, it becomes more and more apparent that the American people have been boldly and blatantly lied to. Those lies have already cost billions of dollars in increased deficit spending and hundreds of brave American lives. It seems to me that it's time the politicians who so easily and quickly perpetrate such deceit should also pay a price, the price of their own removal from office!
