Our loyalty is due entirely to the United States. It is due to the President only and exactly to the degree in which he efficiently serves the United States. It is our duty to support him when he serves the United States well. It is our duty to oppose him when he serves it badly.
Theodore Roosevelt
For all of the things I take issue with in Theodore Roosevelt’s presidency, his sentiment above I find absolutely essential to the maintenance of a free society. In “Teddy’s” quote, he demonstrates a sagacious understanding of the difference between America, the country, and America, the government.
In my message last Sunday, I said:
The government and the country are NOT one and the same. The government is NOT the country, and the country is NOT the government. The whole purpose of the Bill of Rights is to protect the country from the government.
Many evangelicals believe that it is their duty to be loyal to the government. This is patently false. It is the duty of the citizenry to see to it that the government does not pose a risk to the country or abridge the rights and freedoms within the country. You have the obligation to protest and resist unjust government. That is a Natural right under the laws of God.
I find it maddening that the largest group of Americans supporting President Donald Trump are white evangelical Christians, especially the Boomers (my generation, UGH). They not only support Trump; they adore him. They idolize him, even worship him. They say things like, “He’s the best president in U.S. history.” “He’s saving America.” “He’s America’s only hope.” “He and Melania are the greatest Christians to ever reside in the White House.” “He’s next to God in importance to mankind.”
Public statements such as those above are endless. This is not political support. This is Christian idolatry.
In a recent speech before an audience of Christian zombies in Park City, Kansas, on Monday, October 19, Trump, again, deified himself, saying:
You know, I have the all-time in history Christian vote. I have the evangelical vote, the Christian vote. I know more, I know more than anybody. As somebody said about me, they said, a certain pastor from a place in Dallas, Texas, he said, "You know, he might not read the Bible as much as us, he might not know every passage, and he might have some other little weaknesses, but one thing about him, he's the greatest leader, and he's gonna lead us to a period of time in Christianity that nobody else can do. That nobody else can do." And he turned out to be right.
And, of course, the Christian zombies standing in front of him went wild with enthusiastic approbation.
He might have some other little weaknesses.
Yeah, like self-worship, malignant narcissism, uber pride, arrogance and vanity, compulsive lying, lifelong infidelity, pedophilia, serial murder, thievery on an international scale, fraud, insider trading on a galactic level (Trump has used his position as U.S. president to put more than $2 billion in his pocket) and genocide.
“He's gonna lead us to a period of time in Christianity that nobody else can do. That nobody else can do."
Yeah, like taking evangelical Christianity into the mire of “Christian” Nationalism, Biblical heresy, idolatry of a foreign government (Israel) and warping the hearts and minds of “Christians” with the spirit of bigotry, hatred and murder. Not to mention, the odious indifference and deliberate attempt to cover up the crimes against children committed by Trump and the other billionaires found in the Epstein files.
Donald Trump has led Christianity to a period of time that nobody else could do. That’s for sure!
Donald Trump is a gangster. He leads not with character and courage but with threats, intimidation, humiliation and brute force. Cross Donald Trump, and he unleashes the hounds of hell against you. Just ask Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie, Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, any number of judges who have followed the Constitution and ruled against Trump’s myriad illegal, tyrannical policies or any number of reporters—especially female reporters—that Trump has verbally insulted using every degrading word in the English language (at least, those few one- or two-syllable words that he knows).
Or take that lady protester in Ohio who called for Trump to release the Epstein files, and a Trump zombie, a man (only due to the sex organ he was born with, not due to any reflection of genuine manhood), proceeded to take his fist and punch that lady in the face, knocking her to the floor. After which Trump shouted into the microphone, “They’re scum!” And all the Ohio Trump zombies began to holler, “USA! USA!”
That’s what Trump has done to America. That’s what Trump has done to evangelicalism. That’s what Trump has done to manhood. That’s what Trump has done to decency, honor, integrity and character.
Donald Trump has turned Ronald Reagan’s City on a Hill (borrowing from John Winthrop, 1630) into a Country in a Pit—a Slime Pit. A pit of death, destruction and shame.
That’s not the USA. That’s North Korea; that’s the Soviet Union; that’s Nazi Germany; that’s the Roman Empire; that’s Zionist Israel.
Trump is not a president; he is a mafia don, a gang lord, a cult leader.
Leo Hohmann writes:
In a sure sign that Donald Trump is in desperation mode less than three weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, he’s again rolled out his infamous AI video suggesting that he is the “Chosen One” of God to save America.
The bizarre “So God Made Trump” video was first used in 2024, and was played again at the Republican midterm convention last month in Dallas.
Trump re-released it today on his Truth Social platform.
This video is perhaps Trump’s most over-the-top caricature of himself as a messiah sent by God to save America. And that’s saying a lot, since he once released an image of himself dressed in a Christ-like white robe with red sash claiming to be the healer of mankind.
The video, produced with AI using the fake AI-produced voice of conservative commentator Paul Harvey (who died in 2009), portrays Trump as created and chosen by God specifically for the purpose of saving America and thus the whole world from destruction.
It would be impossible for any true Christian to view this video and not recoil at the preposterous suggestion that Trump is an arch type of an Americanized Jesus Christ. Fighting corruption and the deep state. This might have played well among his base in 2024. But in 2026 it is laughable. He’s not made a single deep-state arrest, refused to prosecute anyone in the Epstein files, and most recently said Hillary and Obama won’t face any legal ramifications for their alleged misdeeds while in office.
There is so much that is downright cringeworthy about this video that I will not waste your time going into it. You can watch it for yourself.
But there is a section that goes beyond cringe into the realm of blasphemy against the one and only God of the Universe and his Son Jesus Christ.
The section I’m talking about comes at the 1:33 mark of the video where it says “God said” he wanted a man who “cares for his flock, a shepherd to mankind who will never leave nor forsake them… So God made Trump.”
Jesus Christ, the actual Son of God and Savior of mankind, is described in the Bible as the “Good Shepherd” who tends his Father’s flock and will “never leave nor forsake” his followers.
Trump is expropriating the qualities of Jesus Christ and applying them to himself. This is serious stuff folks. You can’t just dismiss it as Trump being Trump and trolling his political opponents. This is a special kind of evil. Even most evil men refrain from comparing themselves to God.
This is blasphemy, plain and simple. And I’m sorry but any Christian who believes this slop about Trump, or defends it, is also guilty of blasphemy. Not to mention idolatry.
Americans are starting to see Trump for what he is: A false messiah not tending his flock but leading it astray.
Ironically, there are scores of conservative and Christian writers, podcasters and commentators out there who continuously refer to the Iranians, whenever discussing the U.S.-Iran war, as “crazy” or “nut jobs” or “religious zealots.”
I’d like to ask them, what could be more nuts, crazy or religiously out-of-bounds than a man who starts wars, lies continuously, spends other people’s money with reckless abandon, protects pedophiles and compares himself to God?
In the process, he is destroying his country and his party. And everyone can see it other than the roughly one-third of American voters who remain in Trumpland.
Most of the smarter voters have already left MAGA.
They see Trump for what he is. A man fixated on himself. Constantly promoting himself. Constantly taking credit for feats not accomplished. Constantly renaming things after himself. And he’s obsessed with Iran, a country whose entire existence he’s vowed to end, presumably with a nuclear weapon, if they don’t submit to his demands for an “unconditional surrender.”
This war of obsession is throwing away American lives and treasure for an unattainable idea that if America can simply defeat this one country it will lead to a resurgence of U.S. hegemony in the Middle East and its control over world energy markets.
Trump’s “plan” to corner international energy markets and therefore starve China of the oil and gas it needs to fuel its rising economy, is going to backfire and hasten the collapse of the American empire. And it’s going to happen in typically grand Trumpian fashion. The loss heaped on Trump’s head will be so dramatic it will be impossible to spin it as a win.
Whether he realizes it or not, Trump is the opposite of a savior. He is a destroyer.
Amen, Leo!
The mid-term elections coming up are the most important mid-terms since those in 1994. God, please deliver us from the Trump cult on November 3.
