One of the most important jury decisions in modern history was rendered last week, and the mainstream media (including FOX News) said nary a word about it. We have about as much free press as we do free elections. In other words, we have neither.
An eight-person jury in Liberty County, Florida, found Sheriff Nick Finch NOT-GUILTY on charges that had been brought against him by the State of Florida and after he had been removed from office by Republican Governor Rick Scott.
A deputy sheriff had arrested a Florida resident for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. When he was taken into custody, Sheriff Nash let the man go and gave him back his handgun. The Sheriff rightly said that the Second Amendment trumps State gun-control laws and the man has a constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
Governor Rick Scott removed the sheriff from office and the FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) brought charges against him. The eight-person jury deliberated about 90 minutes before returning a not-guilty verdict. Sheriff Finch was then reinstated.
My column this week will be about this landmark verdict. My message last Sunday is entitled, "Dare To Be A Daniel." And, in my opinion, Sheriff Finch is a modern-day Daniel, and I said so in the message. Here is the link to my message, and watch for my column.
